Four women U.S. Olympians lead team in all three styles at Spanish Grand Prix, July 9-10

A U.S. team consisting of top Senior and Junior wrestlers in all three styles will compete in the Grand Prix of Spain in Madrid, Spain, July 9-10.


Included on the 17-athlete U.S. women’s freestyle roster are all four of the 2016 U.S. Olympians: Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC/OTC) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., Helen Maroulis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) at 53 kg/116.5 lbs., Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/OTC) at 75 kg/165 lbs.


This will be a final tune-up event for the U.S. Olympians in women’s freestyle prior to competing in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.


Gray is a three-time World champion and five-time World medalist. Pirozhkova is a 2012 World champion, four-time World medalist and two-time Olympian. Maroulis is a 2015 World champion and three-time World medalist. Augello is a past Cadet World champion.


2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials champion Tamyra Mensah (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) will wrestle at 69 kg/152 lbs., and 2013 World Team member and 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials runner-up Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) will battle at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.


In men’s freestyle, 2015 World bronze medalist James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Titan Mercury WC) will compete at 70 kg/154 lbs., while national team member David Taylor (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) is entered at 86 kg/189 lbs.


In Greco-Roman, 2015 World Team member Patrick Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) is registered at 80 kg/176 lbs., along with three members of the U.S. Marine Corps team.


There are seven members of the 2016 U.S. UWW Junior World Team who will compete in the Senior division at this event, four in women’s freestyle and three in men’s freestyle.


The UWW Junior Team members in women’s freestyle are Becka Leathers (Choctaw, Okla./Titan Mercury WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Kayla Miracle (Campbellsville, Ky./Sunkist Kids) at 58 kg/128 lbs., Maya Nelson (Denver, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Rachel Watters (Ankeny, Iowa/Gator/OKCU Women’s RTC) at 69 kg/152 lbs. Leathers was a 2015 Junior World bronze medalist while Miracle was a 2014 Junior World bronze medalist.


The men’s freestyle members of the UWW Junior World Team on this tour are Daton Fix (Sand Springs, Okla./Team BIG) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs., Seth Gross (Rosemount, Minn./Jackrabbit WC) at 65 kg/143 lbs. and Zahid Valencia (Bellflower, Calif./Sunkist Kids) at 86 kg/189 lbs.


The men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions will be held on Saturday, July 9, while the women’s freestyle competition is set for Sunday, July 10.
