Greco-Roman wrestler Jordan Holm (Minneapolis, Minn.) was named as a finalist for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Best of March Awards as the Male Olympic Athlete of the Month.

Jordan Holm won the gold medal at 85 kg/187.5 lbs. in Greco-Roman at the Pan American Olympic Games Qualifier in Frisco, Texas, on March 6. By placing in the top two of his weight class, Holm qualified the United States to compete at 85 kg at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.


Holm controlled the action in the finals, earning a 9-0 technical fall over Alfonso Leyva Yepez of Mexico. In the first period, he scored on a takedown, a pushout and a gutwrench to lead 5-0 at the break. Holm added four second period points, ending with a takedown, for the technical fall.


Holm was not scored upon in his wins in Frisco, outscoring his opponents 20-0. He opened with a dominant 8-0 technical fall over Alexander Brown Thieriault of Canada. In the semifinals, Holm defeated Yorgen Cova Pulido of Venezuela, 3-0.


Holm is a three-time U.S. World Team member (2013-15). He has won four U.S. Open titles, three Dave Schultz Memorial gold medals, and captured the prestigious Hungarian Grand Prix in 2015. Holm competed at Northern Iowa in college and is a native of Northfield, Minn.


The other finalists for Best of February Male Olympic Athlete of the Month are Joe Berenyi (Paralympic Cycling), Eli Dershwitz (Fencing), Steven Lopez (Taekwondo) and Mike Minor (Paralympic Snowboarding).
