Spenser Mango (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Mango made his sixth straight U.S. World Team after capturing a Greco-Roman title at the World Team Trials this past Thursday at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

Mango held off 2013 World Team member Jesse Thielke 4-3 to complete a sweep in their best-of-3 finals series at 59 kg/130 lbs. Mango won the first match of the series 5-0 in May’s U.S. Open finals.

Mango has made every U.S. Olympic and World Team since 2008. He placed fifth at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships.

Mango and Thielke both made the 2013 World Team with Mango at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Thielke at 60 kg/132 lbs. The lowest international weight class changed to 59 kilos in 2014.

Mango will represent the U.S. at September’s World Championships in Las Vegas.
