Randon Miranda (Palmdale, Calif./Team California) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Miranda repeated as champion at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals this past weekend at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Miranda earned a wild 9-6 win over fellow Californian Nicolas Aguilar in the 106-pound finals.
Miranda won a USA Wrestling Junior Triple Crown in 2014 and Aguilar was a Cadet double champion in 2014.
Miranda and Aguilar were tied 6-6 after two periods before Miranda scored an escape and a takedown to prevail.
Miranda remains in the running to win his second straight Triple Crown. The final two legs of the Triple Crown, in Greco-Roman and freestyle, will be contested in July at the Junior and Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D.
Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to USA Wrestling Senior Communications Manager Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
