Iris Smith named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 17-23

Iris Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 17-23.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Smith, a 2005 World champion in women's freestyle, captured the New York Athletic Club International Open title at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. on Sunday in New York City.
Smith beat 2008 Olympian and 2009 World Team member Ali Bernard in three periods in the semifinals before she downed Urkaine's Svetlana Saenko 3-0, 2-1 in the championship bout.
Smith wrestles for the U.S. Army's World Class Athlete Program.
