Miracle, Nwachukwu to meet at 62 kg in women’s freestyle at 2025 Final X in Newark, N.J.
by Brandon Cain, Beat the Streets New York
Two-time Olympian and two-time Senior World medalist Kayla Miracle will meet 2022 U20 World bronze medalist Adaugo Nwachukwu at 62 kg in women’s freestyle at 2025 Final X on Saturday, June 14, at Prudential Center.
Miracle holds a 4-0 record against Nwachukwu. In their first matchup, Miracle defeated Nwachukwu by 10-0 technical fall in the 2022 U.S. Open semifinals, and won two matches, 6-1 and 10-3, at the 2023 Final X at Prudential Center. Miracle advanced to this year’s Final X with a 4-0 victory against Nwachukwu in the 2025 U.S. Open finals in April in Las Vegas, Nev.
Miracle has been a mainstay at 62 kg for Team USA, competing at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, and is a four-time U.S. World Team member. She won a silver medal at the 2021 and 2022 Senior World Championships, and four age-level World medals with silver at the 2019 U23 Worlds, bronze at the 2014 and 2016 U20 Worlds, and silver at the 2012 U17 Worlds. She is also an eight-time Pan American medalist, winning gold in 2019, 2021 and 2024.
Miracle is one of only seven women to claim four college national championships, claiming WCWA titles for Campbellsville University from 2015-18.
Nwachukwu is off to a strong start to the 2028 LA Olympic quadrennial, winning her first Ranking Series medals this year with gold at the Zagreb Open in February in Zagreb, Croatia, and bronze at Muhamet Malo in March in Tirana, Albania. She also claimed gold at the 2024 World Military Championships and bronze at the 2022 U20 Worlds. Collegiately, Nwachukwu is a three-time NAIA national champion for Iowa Wesleyan (2022 and 2023) and William Penn (2024).
Nwachukwu had two technical falls then a fall in 1:19 against SaVannah Cosme in the finals of the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in May in Louisville, Ky., to set up a rematch against Miracle at Final X.
What’s at stake? #
Final X will determine the 2025 U.S. World Team in two international disciplines—men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight classes will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.
Miracle is 3-1 in Final X series. She split her first two matchups against two-time Senior World bronze medalist Mallory Velte, falling in three matches (4-2 win, 4-2 and 7-1 losses) in 2018 and winning two matches (12-2 and 4-0) in 2019. In 2022, Miracle dropped a 13-2 bout in match one then rebounded with wins of 12-2 and 5-3 to defeat 2023 Senior World bronze medalist Jennifer Page. She defeated Nwackuwku two matches to none at 2023 Final X, also held at Prudential Center.
Nwachukwu’s lone Final X appearance came in 2023 against Miracle.
