Ohio Red, Missouri Fire, Colorado and Michigan Blue win their pools at Junior Women’s National Duals in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Day one of the Junior Women’s National Duals featured pool competition, setting up Thursday’s Gold/Silver pool competition. Pool winners were Ohio Red (Pool A), Missouri Fire (Pool B), Colorado (Pool C) and Michigan Blue (Pool D).


The tournament is loaded with nationally ranked wrestlers on the record 41 teams entered in the competition.


Ohio Red won the Pool A finals with an impressive 49-18 victory over Iowa. With the dual meet tied at 5-5, Ohio Red won eight straight matches to put the dual meet away. Nationally ranked winners during the Ohio run were No. 12 Chloe Dearwester (112), No. 17 Kira Cole (117), No. 17 Cali Leng (122), No. 23 Josie Davis (127) and No. 18 Cassia Zammit (132). Other winners for Ohio Red in their streak were Camryn Gresham (100), Leah Willen (106) and Jaydyn McKinney (138). Dearwester edged No. 19 Reanah Utterback, 7-6 in their match. Another winner for Ohio in the dual meet was No. 1 Savannah Isaac (200).


Missouri Fire won a competitive Pool B finals over California Red, 38-27. The big difference came late in the dual meet when Missouri Fire won four straight matches, all by bonus points. Technical falls came from No. 13 Jayci Shelton (138), Louise Juitt (144) and Rebecca Strong (152) and a pin by Faith James (132). Another big win for Missouri Fire came at 180, when No. 3 Isabella Renfro defeated No. 15 Johanna Forman, 13-6.


Colorado was in control over Arizona Black in the Pool C finals, 40-23. Colorado won nine matches, eight by nationally ranked wrestlers: No. 1 Ciara Monger (225), No. 9 Alexsys Jacquez (106), No. 5 Janessa George (112), No. 15 Mia Hargrove (117), No. 16 Taylor Miess (127), No. 28 Timberly Martinez (132), No. 26 Ryen Hickey (144) and No. 18 Alison Evans (180). Arizona had a big win at 100, when No. 5 Erica Pastoriza beat No. 6 Katey Valdez, 8-7.


Michigan Blue stopped Tennessee Red 40-21.in the Pool D finals. Michigan Blue took control with six straight victories and eight of the first nine matches. Winners in Michigan’s opening streak were Lilliana Garcia (225), Cheyenne Frank, Tomasin Mair, No. 25 Sky Langewicz (112), No. 10 Alexis Lazar (117) and No. 27 Isabella Cepak (122). Cepak had a big win over No. 19 Ella-Lina Gonzalez by fall in 33 seconds.


The top two teams in each pool advanced to the Gold/Silver pool, which will determine the top eight teams in the tournament. Placing second in their pools were Iowa (Pool A), California Red (Pool B) and Arizona Black (Pool C). Pool D has not yet been completed.


Iowa needed a 37-29 win over Minnesota Blue in a True Second Place bout in Pool A. Arizona Black edged Illinois 34-33 in a wild True Second Place Bout in Pool C. Arizona Black won three of the last four matches of the dual meet to secure the win. The Pool D True Second match between Tennessee Red and Pennsylvania Blue has yet to be held.


Based upon results in the preliminary pools, competition on Thursday will be in the color pools, Gold/Silver pool, Bronze/Copper pool, Bronze/Copper pool, Red/Blue pool, Green/Yellow pool, Purple and White.
