TULSA, Okla.— The first two sessions of Greco-Roman at the Junior National Duals were completed Wednesday. Teams were split into four different pools and competed in a bracket format.
In pool A, Illinois defeated Colorado 55-8 to advance to the Gold/Silver pool on Thursday, which features the top eight teams in the tournament. All but one of the weight classes were won by Illinois in the dual, with Colorado’s only victory at 152 pounds. Illinois entered the duals as the top seed in the duals.
Second-seeded Idaho defeated Pennsylvania 35-31 to take the top spot in pool B. Pennsylvania secured eight of the 15 wins in the dual, but all seven of Idaho’s wins were bonus point victories, including two wins by fall.
In pool C, it was third-seed California Gold that ended the session on top with a 60-9 win over Oklahoma Blue. Oklahoma Blue picked up just one win in the dual, earning team points for a fall at 126 pounds.
Iowa brought down Oklahoma Red 40-28 in pool D. In a back-and-forth dual, Iowa captured nine wins, including two wins by fall. Iowa is the defending champion having won the Greco-Roman duals in 2022 and entered the first sessions as the fourth-seed. Oklahoma Red began the duals as the fifth seed in the tournament.
The top two teams in each pool also advanced to the eight-team Gold-Silver pool. The runners-up in the pool competition included Colorado in pool A, Pennsylvania in pool B, Oklahoma Blue in pool C and Oklahoma Red in pool D.
The tournament starts up again on Wednesday at 9 a.m. CT. The placement pools will be completed, setting up medal matches in each of the pools. The results from the Gold/Silver pool will determine the champion and top eight teams. There is also a Bronze/Copper pool, Red/Blue pool, Green pool and Yellow pool.
The event is being broadcast live by FloWrestling.
