Vote online for Jordan Burroughs for prestigious AAU James E. Sullivan Award as nation’s best amateur athlete

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) has announced that 2022 World freestyle wrestling champion wrestler Jordan Burroughs has been named as a finalist for the prestigious James E. Sullivan Award, given annually to the nation’s best amateur athlete.


Fans will be able to vote for Jordan Burroughs starting October 27, with voting ending on November 9. Fans can vote once per day, so you are encouraged to vote for Jordan on a daily basis.

Burroughs won a gold medal at 79 kg at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships. He became the first U.S. wrestler to win seven Olympic and World gold medals, breaking the tie that he held with John Smith and Adeline Gray. He joined Gray as a six-time Senior World Champion. He was also a 2022 Pan American Championships gold medalist, and qualified for the U.S. World Team with his victory in Final X.


Overall, Burroughs has won an amazing 10 World and Olympic medals during his historic career. He was an Olympic gold medalist at the 2012 London Games.


There have been five previous Sullivan Award winners from wrestling: John Smith (1990), Bruce Baumgartner (1995), Rulon Gardner (2000), Kyle Snyder (2017) and Spencer Lee (2019). An athlete can only win the James E Sullivan Award once.


Other Sullivan Award finalists are Aliyah Boston (basketball), Allyson Felix (track and field), Athing Mu (track and field), Bryce Young (football), Carissa Moore (surfing), Chloe Kim (snowboarding), Elana Meyers Taylor (bobsled), Erin Jackson (speed skating), Ivan Melendez (baseball), Jaime Jaquez (basketball), Jocelyn Alo (softball), Kaillie Humphries (bobsled), Katie Ledecky (swimming), Logan Wisnauskas (lacrosse), Maddie Musselman (water polo), Nathan Chen (figure skating), Sophie Jaques (ice hockey) and Sydney McLauglin-Levrone (track and field).


The AAU James E. Sullivan Award will be presented on Thursday, December 8 at the Samuel Goldwyn Historic Beach House in Santa Monica, California.
