PONTEVEDRA, Spain – Nick Boykin was the only U.S. Greco-Roman wrestler to qualify for the repechage rounds at the U23 World Championships. His loss in repechage on Wednesday morning was the final bout for the United States in Greco-Roman.
Boykin got behind Luka Katic of Serbia early in the match, and was unable to come from behind, ultimately dropping a 7-4 decision.
Katic, who was fifth in the 2022 U23 World Championships, took down Boykin early, then scored three straight gut wrenches for a 7-0 lead. Boykin responded with a takedown to close it to 7-2 at the break. Boykin scored on a passivity against Boykin and added a step out, but could not get a late score.
Boykin has been on the U.S. Senior National Team and has also won the U.S. Senior Nationals two times in his career. This is his third age-group World Championships, also competing in the 2021 U23 Worlds and the 2019 U20 Worlds. Boykin competes for Ohio State.
The four other U.S. wrestlers in Group B were eliminated on Tuesday. The medal match finals for Group Two of the Greco-Roman event will begin at 6:00 p.m. local time, right after the women’s freestyle Group One finals.
