International teams accept berths at Men’s & Women’s Freestyle World Cup in Coralville, Iowa, Dec. 10-11

United World Wrestling has confirmed that all of the international teams which qualified to compete in the 2022 Men’s and Women’s Freestyle World Cup have accepted their berths. This exciting international competition will be held at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa, Dec. 10-11.


The top five teams in men’s freestyle and the top five teams in women’s freestyle from the 2022 Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia in September were invited, and have confirmed their participation.


The World Cup is the annual international dual meet championships. This will be the first time in history that the men’s freestyle World Cup and the women’s freestyle World Cup events will be held side-by-side.


In men’s freestyle, the teams which will compete are (in rank order): 1. USA; 2. Iran; 3. Japan; 4. Mongolia; 5. Georgia.


In women’s freestyle, the teams which will compete (in rank order): 1. Japan; 2. USA; 3. China; 4. Mongolia; 5. Ukraine.


There will also be an All-World Team assembled for each tournament, bringing the number of teams to six for each gender.


The top-placing athlete in each weight class from the 2022 Senior World Championships from a nation that did not qualify for the World Cup has been invited to compete on the All-World Team in Coralville. United World Wrestling is working to confirm the participant in each weight class for the All-World Team for both men’s and women’s freestyle and will announce the athletes on those teams once they have been finalized.


Ticket packages for the 2022 Men’s and Women’s Freestyle World Cup are currently on sale. The seating capacity for Xtream Arena for the World Cup will be approximately 5,300. Fans are encouraged to buy immediately, as organizers expect to sell out.


Ticket packages include a Gold package for $275, Silver package for $200 and All-Session tickets for $90.


A special Presentation of Teams and Team USA Meet & Greet will also be held on Friday, December 9, with tickets available at $10. Fans can receive a free youth ticket for the Friday night event, with the purchase of an adult general admission ticket.

Men’s and Women’s Freestyle World Cup tickets


This will be the second time that the men’s freestyle World Cup has been held in the Iowa City area, as the 2018 World Cup was hosted at the world-famous Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City.


This will be the 31st time the United States has hosted the men’s freestyle World Cup event, the most of any nation. Coralville will become the 10th U.S. city to host the Freestyle World Cup. The other U.S. cities which have hosted the World Cup include Toledo, Ohio (17 times); Los Angeles, Calif. (three times) Chattanooga, Tenn. (twice); Spokane, Wash.(twice); Stillwater, Okla. (twice); Baltimore, Md.; Fairfax, Va., Boise, Idaho and Iowa City, Iowa.


This will be the first time that the United States has ever hosted the Women’s World Cup.


The 2023 Men’s and Women’s Freestyle World Cup has also been awarded to Coralville, which will also be held in December of that year.
