All top seeds advance as semifinals set in women’s freestyle at World Team Trials Challenge Tournament

CORALVILLE, Iowa - All four No. 1 seeds who had quarterfinal matches scored victories and will compete in the semifinal round. They included Erin Golston of the New York AC at 50 kg, Nanea Estrella of Titan Mercury WC at 59 kg, Sienna Ramierz of the Southern Oregon RTC at 68 kg and Dymond Guilford of the USOPTC/TMWC at 76 kg.
Six of the No. 1 seeds had byes in the quarterfinals and will have their first matches during the semifinal round.
The highest seed to lose a match was No. 2 seed, two of which were defeated in the quarterfinals.
No. 7 seed Rachel Watters of the Hawkeye WC/TMWC had a strong second period to defeat No. 2 Naheila Magee of the U.S. Army, 8-4 at 68 kg. Watters was a 2018 Final X runner-up.
No. 7 seed Olivia Robinson of the Peninsula WC, an NAIA runner-up for Eastern Oregon, defeated No. 2 seed and two-time U.S. Open champion Precious Bell of the Victory School of Wrestling/TMWC, 4-4 by criteria. Robinson hit a four-point takedown in the first period, which gave her the edge on criteria.
In the quarterfinals at 50 kg, three-time age-group World champion and No. 5 seed Emily Shilson of Twin Cities RTC/TMWC avenged a loss from the U23 Nationals semifinals, scoring a dominant 10-0 technical fall over California high school star and No. 4 seed Nyla Valencia of the Titan Mercury WC in the first period. Valencia defeated Shilson two weeks ago, 8-5. Shilson will battle No. 1 seed and 2022 U.S. Open champion Erin Golston of NYAC in the semifinals.
The semifinals in six weight classes will be held during the Saturday afternoon session: 50 kg, 55 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg and 68 kg. The winners will battle on Sunday morning to earn their spot in Final X against a 2021 World medalist.
The semifinals in four weight classes will be held on Sunday morning: 53 kg, 59 kg, 72 kg and 76 kg. The winners of Sunday morning’s semifinals both advance to Final X.
