At 82 kg, Cunningham pinned Brayden Ambo of Canada in the first period of his first match. A few bouts later, Cunningham advanced to the semifinals after officials disqualified Nestor Tafur Barrios of Colombia for accumulating three cautions. Tafur, who usually competes in freestyle, was an EIWA champion at Boston University. Cunningham lost his cross-bracketed semifinals match to Daniel Vicente Gomez of Mexico, 7-6. He will have a rematch with Tafur for the bronze medal.

She wrestled through the injury and lost 19-8 against Mexico’s Ameyali Jessel Rojas. Canada’s Laurence Beauregard sent Mota-Pettis to her back and secured an early fall. There is one more match in the three-athlete round-robin, and Mota-Pettis will receive a bronze medal.
