TULSA, Okla. – In its first season back in the Big 12, Mizzou claimed the conference team title on Sunday at the BOK Center with 131.5 points, followed by second-place Oklahoma with 113 points. It marks Mizzou’s 11th-consecutive conference championship as the Tigers earned the Big 12 title in 2012 before moving to the MAC Conference, where the team won nine-straight conference crowns.

Leading the way for the Tigers was No. 1 seed and 2021 Junior World champion Keegan O’Toole at 165 pounds. In the finals, O’Toole took on Peyton Hall of West Virginia in an exciting back-and-forth bout, where O’Toole came out on top, 13-7. It marks his second conference title as he won the 2021 MAC crown at 165.

Rounding out the top-five in the team race were Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Northern Iowa.

Despite taking fourth as a team Oklahoma State, which won every Big 12 team title from 2013-2021, had the most conference champions of the weekend with three and a fourth finalist.

Winning his third conference title of his career, Daton Fix, a 2021 Senior World silver medalist, took out No. 2 Kyle Biscoglia from Northern Iowa, 6-2, at 133 pounds. With the win, Fix carries a 21-0 record into Detroit, where the two-time NCAA finalist seeks his first national crown.

The second Big 12 champ of the night for the Cowboys was 149-pounder Kaden Gfeller, who grinded out a low-scoring 2-1 decision over OU’s Willie McDougald, the No. 2 seed, for his second conference title.

OSU’s third champion was Dustin Plott, who picked up the title at 174 pounds in exciting fashion over sixth-seeded Peyton Mocco of Mizzou. Down 3-2 in the final minute, the Cowboy fired off a stream of relentless attacks, which led to a takedown with less than 20 ticks on the clock for an eventual 4-3 win.

Returning NCAA champion David Carr of Iowa State collected his third Big 12 title in Tulsa, shutting down North Dakota State’s Jared Franek in the 157-pound finals to become the 16th Cyclone wrestler to win three conference championships. Carr heads into NCAAs with a 54-match win streak, dating back to early-December of 2019.

Northern Iowa had three athletes in the finals on Sunday but the lone champion for the Panthers came at 184, where Parker Keckeisen won his second Big 12 championship, recording a 13-3 major decision over Mizzou’s Jeremiah Kent. Keckeisen becomes the fifth-straight Panther to win the conference crown at 184 pounds.

Returning All-American Stephen Buchanan of Wyoming improved on his 2021 Big 12 runner-up finish, winning the 197-pound title on Sunday over Tanner Sloan of South Dakota State, 3-2. Buchanan is the first Wyoming Cowboy to top the Big 12 podium since 2018.

West Virginia picked up its third Big 12 champion in program history as senior Killian Cardinale, the No. 1 seed, defeated third-seeded Brody Teske of Northern Iowa with an offensive 8-3 victory in the 125-pound finals.

Two programs earned their first Big 12 champions in school history on Sunday.

At 141 pounds, Andrew Alirez made history for Northern Colorado, thanks to a 6-4 win against Allan Hart from Mizzou in the finals, while Air Force Academy earned their first as undefeated Wyatt Hendrickson put together a 16-6 major decision over Luke Surber of Oklahoma State at 285 pounds.

The Division I college postseason continues with the NCAA Championships, set for March 17-19 in Detroit, Mich.
