Pennsylvania Blue, California, Iowa and Oklahoma Red win preliminary pools at 16U National Greco Duals

LOVES PARK, Ill. — The quest for a Greco-Roman national championship began with the Greco-Roman preliminary pool competitions at the National Duals in Loves Park, Illinois.
Pennsylvania Blue concluded its rampage through the A Pool with a 53-24 win over Colorado. Pennsylvania Blue was one of four teams to win their pool, and advance to Thursday’s Gold/Silver Pool, which determines the top eight teams.
In the B Pool, California topped Minnesota 37-34. Iowa will represent the top spot from the C Pool in the Gold/Silver Pool after a 44-30 victory against Idaho. Oklahoma Red clipped Missouri 38-35 to claim the D Pool.
The second-place teams in each pool join the winners in the eight-team Gold-Silver pool. Each pool had a true second place dual to decide those spots. The Gold/Silver Pool is split into two pools, which will determine medal matches, and ultimately the top eight teams in the tournament.
In the A Pool, Colorado shut down Georgia Blue, 42-33.
Illinois returned to the Gold/Silver Pool after the day’s first dual decided by criteria. It won its last bout to force a 37-36 win over Team Michigan Blue.
Tennessee won its final four bouts against Idaho to win 44-34 in Pool C. In Pool D’s true second place dual, Minnesota Blue, the defending champions, stopped Missouri 40-34.
The tournament resumes Thursday at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. MT. Placement pools will be completed, determining medal matches in each pool. There will also be a Bronze-Copper Pool, a Yellow Pool, a Red/Blue Pool and a Green/Yellow Pool.
All three of USA Wrestling’s major National Dual meet events (16U, 14U, Junior) will be live on FloWrestling.
