Greco-Roman athletes receive draws for U17 World Championships in Rome

ROME, Italy - The U17 Greco-Roman World Team received its draws for the 2022 U17 World Championships which begins Monday, July 25.

The five Greco-Roman athletes who will make their World Championships debuts tomorrow are Christian Castillo at 48kg, Nick Treaster at 55kg, Joel Adams at 65kg, Cole Han-Lindemayer at 80kg and Koy Hopke at 110kg.

 

Representing Team USA in both freestyle and Greco-Roman this week in Rome, Castillo drew Ionut Mereuta of Romania who placed fifth at the 2022 U17 European Championships.

 

Treaster will wrestle the winner of Halil Cinar of Turkey, who placed third at the 2022 U17 European Championships, and Bekzhan Esenbek of Kyrgyzstan.

 

Adams drew Takaku Suzuki of Japan, Han-Lindemayer will wrestle Taizo Yoshida of Japan and Hopke will face Maxim Ukraintsev of Kazakhstan. Their competitors do not currently have international credentials.

 

Competing on Tuesday, July 25 are Davis Motyka at 45kg, Elyle Francisco at 51kg, Zan Fugitt at 60 kg, Arvin Khosravy at 71kg and Cody Merrill at 92kg.

 

Motyka and Fugittboth drew place finishers from the 2022 U17 European Championships. Francisco will wrestle Peter Totok of Hungary who placed seventh at the 2021 U17 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

 

Khosravy drew Marco Begle of Austria, who took 22nd at the 2022 U17 European Championships. Merrill's opponent, Arsen Ruslanov of Kyrgyzstan, has no international credentials.

 

Greco-Roman competition concludes on Wednesday, July 27. Women's freestyle begins on Wednesday and men's freestyle on Friday, July 29. Follow along on USA Wrestling's Twitter for live updates.
