LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The 2022 U20 Greco-Roman Pan-Am Team was formed this evening at the conclusion of the finals. The ten champions of each weight claimed their spots on the team, and also earned an automatic berth in the best-of-three series determining the World Team in June. The U20 Pan American Championships will take place in Oaxtepec, Mexico, July 8-10

There were five former World Team members in the championship matches this evening, including Kodiak Stephens and Tyler Hannah facing off against one another in the 87 kg match.

Stephens was a Junior World Team member in 2021, while Hannah was a member of the 2019 Cadet World Team. The other three former World Team Members were Jakason Burks (Cadet 2018), Robert Perez III (Cadet 2019), and Jadon Skellenger (Cadet 2021).

Stephens of Beaver Dam Wrestling Regional Training Center and Hannah of Combat W.C. School of Wrestling have shared a little bit of history, as Hannah teched Stephens in their first bout at last year’s best-of-three series. Stephens ended up winning the next two and earning the spot. Tonight was all Stephens once again, as he earned an 8-0 technical fall in the first period and claimed his second straight national title..

At 72 kg, Richard Fedalen of Warhawks Wrestling faced reigning Cadet World Team member Jadon Skellenger of Suples Wrestling Club. Skellenger led 4-3 before the end of the first period. It was all Fedalen in the second period though, as he scored 10 straight to earn the technical fall and knocked off his second straight 2021 Cadet national champion. His impressive weekend earned him the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Robert Perez III of Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club toed the line against Hunter Garvin of Big Game Wrestling Club for the 67 kg title. Perez led 2-0 before an exchange took the two competitors out of bounds with Garvin landing on top. After a failed challenge from Garvin’s corner, Perez’s lead was extended to 3-0 at the break. Garvin started the second period firing to gain a 4-3 lead, but Perez responded with a takedown of his own to go up 5-4 with about a minute remaining. After a couple last ditch efforts from Garvin the final score wound up 11-4 in favor of Perez.

2018 Cadet World Team member Jakason Burks of MWC Wrestling Academy faced Caleb Coyle of Beaver Dam Wrestling Regional Training Center in the first championship match of the night at 55 kg. Burks jumped out to a 5-0 lead before finishing the match off with an impressive four point move to wrap up his tournament with a first period tech.

Anthony Aniciete of Aniciete Training Club impressively knocked off Cadet World Silver Medalist Cory Land of Ironclad Wrestling Club in the semifinals at 60 kg. He competed in the finals with Max Black of Black Fox Wrestling Academy. Aniciete led 1-0 after the first period, but Black would surge to a 9-1 victory, turning Aniciete four times with an impressive series of gutwrenchs.

In the 63 kg division, Colton Parduhn of Interior Grappling Academy tangled with Haiden Drury of Brunson UVRTC for the top spot. Drury was controlling the center of the mat early with three push out points in the first period of the match. Drury added a takedown and another push out in the second to earn a controlling 6-0 decision.

At 77 kg, it would be CJ Hamblin of Askeo International Mat Club facing MJ Gaitan of

Temecula Valley High School Wrestling. At the break the score was 3-3 with the advantage being in Hamblin’s favor. Hamblin would get a push out point to open up the scoring in the second, however Gaitan responded with nine straight points earning the tech fall 12-4.

Adrian Artsisheuskiy of Elite Wrestling Academy took on Michael Altomer of West Point Wrestling Club in the 82 kg championship bout. Altomer came out with a big four point move and kept the pace for a 10-2 tech fall right at the beginning of the second period.

Robert Plympton of Oregon competed with Jackson Dewald of MWC Wrestling Academy in the 97 kg finals. Plymptom made quick work of this one and came out with a huge four point throw and two turns to earn the title in just 39 seconds.

In the final matchup of the night, Alex Semenenko of DC Trained met Aden Attao of Suples Wrestling Club for the top spot at 130 kg. Semenenko hit an arm throw for a takedown early, but Attao battled back to make it a 2-2 match at the break.
