Peters finishes 1-2 in Group C and does not advance to championship bracket at Rome Beach World Series

Michael Peters (Quincy, Ill.) dropped his Saturday morning Group C bout at 70 kg and did not advance to the championship bracket at the Rome Beach World Series event in Rome, Italy on Saturday.
He was defeated in the third Group C round by Stefan Ionut Coman of Romania, 3-0 in 1:00. He finished his Group C competition with a 1-2 record, and placed third in the pool behind group winner Oleksii Boruta of Ukraine and group runner-up Coman.
Peters had his first two Group C Matches on Friday, in a pool of four athletes. He opened up with a 4-0 win over Clement Dylan Jean-Francois Lamothe of France in 1:20, then dropped a 5-0 decision to Boruta in 1:52.
The championship bracket included eight athletes, the top two finishers in the four Groups. Boruta went on to win the gold medal at the weight class, with Coman placing fourth. Peters finished 10th overall in the weight class, which had 17 entries.
A wrestler at Marysville University, Peters placed fifth at the 2017 Beach World Championships, and has won the U.S. Beach Nationals in the past. Peters was third at the 2019 Zagreb Beach World Series Final in Croatia, and placed third in the 2019 Beach World Series final standings.
Peters is expected to compete in the final two stops on the Beach World Series, in Katerini-Pierria, Greece, Sept. 10-11 and Constanta, Romania, Sept. 25-26. The U.S. will have a larger delegation at the Constanta event, which is considered the Beach World Series Final.
