Senior Athletes: Deadline to register for Beach World Series in Greece is June 23; Act now and join the U.S. team

by Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling

Dear U.S. Senior men and women athletes:

Do you want to compete in an international event this summer, test yourself against talented foreign opponents, and score points that could qualify you for a major multi-sport competition in 2022?

There are spots available on the U.S. team which is competing in the Beach World Series event in Katerini-Pierria, Greece, July 9-10.

The deadline to have your registration completed with United World Wrestling is Thursday, June 23. If you want to wrestle in Greece, you must act quickly.

This is the fourth stop on the 2022 Beach World Series. Currently, four U.S. Senior athletes have confirmed participation, and a referee has been assigned. There are spots available for both men and women in each weight class.

You will need an updated UWW license in order to register. For those who do not have one, USA Wrestling will need to following from you immediately: A jpg mugshot photo of yourself, a copy of the photo page of your passport, a completed UWW medical form and a Visa/Master card number so UWW can charge you CHF103 Swiss Francs (approximately $110 U.S) for the license. There is time to do this, but we must act right now.

The Beach World Series in Katerini, Greece is one of five Beach World Series events (three in 2022 and the first two in 2023) where athletes can earn points to qualify the USA at their weight for the ANOC World Beach Games in 2023 in Bali, Indonesia, August 5-12. The ANOC World Beach Games were an international multi-sport event held alongside a number of other major beach events. In 2019, U.S. athletes who qualified were funded by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.

For athletes wishing to compete in the final of the 2022 Beach World Series events in Constanta, Romaia, September 3-4, also competing in Greece will improve your chances for success. USA Wrestling is looking to organize a large team for Romania, and it is possible that some weight classes could fill up for that trip. Competing in Greece now is a great idea for those seeking success in Beach Wrestling

United World Wrestling has indicated that it is pursuing Beach Wrestling as a possible future discipline in the Olympic Games..

If you want to compete in the Beach World Series event in Katerini, Greece, immediately contact Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling at gabbott@usawrestling.org or via cell phone at 719-659-9637.
