by Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling

Have you punched your ticket to attend the USA Wrestling’s new National High School Recruiting Showcase in Coralville, Iowa, March 25-27?

The first way to qualify is to place in the top five of your weight class at one of the eight qualifiers for the event.

The series kicks off this weekend with five of its eight qualifiers. There is still time to register on line and to attend one of those qualifiers this weekend.

March 16-18 – Arizona Qualifier in Bullhead City, Ariz.

March 19-21 – Indiana Qualifier in Indianapolis, Ind.

March 19-21 – Kansas Qualifier in Dodge City, Kansas

The other way to qualify is that State champions and National Prep champions (any year) who meet the age and grade requirements automatically qualify for the High School National Recruiting Showcase for both boys and girls.

State champions are defined as state association sanctioned state champions for boys, and both state association sanctioned champions and recognized unofficial state champions for girls in folkstyle.

As of this morning, 163 state champions from 38 different states registered since online registration became available. That includes 84 girls and 79 boys. Please note, in the National High School Recruiting Showcase Series, the boys wrestle folkstyle and the girls wrestle freestyle.

The deadline has been extended so more high school champions and National Prep champions can join this tough field.
