Bassett to wrestle for gold, Nelson and Jesuroga to go for bronze at the 2021 Cadet World Championships

Budapest, Hungary – Bo Bassett punched his ticket to the 48 kg men’s freestyle finals in dominant fashion at the 2021 Cadet World Championships, picking up a first period technical fall over Uzbekistan’s Umidjon Iskandarov, 13-2. Bassett gave up the initial takedown before cracking the match wide open, scoring a step-out point and then quickly converting on a takedown transitioned straight into a leg lace, earning five sets of exposure points to end the match. Bassett has yet to go the distance at this tournament, picking up pins in his first two matches.

Tomorrow, Bassett will wrestle Russia’s Alikhan Ashinov for gold.

At 92 kg, Team USA’s other semifinalist in this session Gavin Nelson fell to Russia’s Zhorik Dzhioev 7-0. Nelson will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.

Nate Jesuroga will also wrestle for bronze tomorrow at 51 kg. Jesuroga fell in the quarterfinals to Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Jumanazarov, who only needed to wrestle two matches to reach the finals. In the semifinals he defeated, Belarus’s Uladzislau Zuiko, who will be Jesuroga’s bronze medal match opponent.

At 60 kg, Beau Mantanona’s tournament concluded this afternoon when Azerbaijan’s Abdulrahman Ibrahimov, the wrestler who defeated Mantanona in the opening round, fell in the semifinals.

Tomorrow’s medal round begins at 12:00 p.m. EST and will stream live on FloWrestling.
