Match of the Day: Bernie Truax claims a UWW Junior Nationals title

Cal Poly redshirt sophomore Bernie Truax had an impressive performance at the 2020 UWW Junior Nationals last November. On his way to the finals, Truax took out two of the top high school wrestlers in the country in Cael Valencia and two-time Cadet World bronze medalist Alex Facundo. To claim the title, Truax bested South Dakota State’s Cade DeVos, a 2019 Fargo Junior champion in Greco-Roman and runner-up in men’s freestyle.
Truax was a 2020 NCAA qualifier and is currently ranked No. 18 in the country at 174 pounds. He is 7-1 this season, with his only loss coming to No. 4 Demetrius Romero of Utah Valley in sudden victory.
