Cody Chittum (Charleston, Tenn./Greco-Roman Development) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Dec. 7, 2021.

Chittum represented the United States at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, last weekend, where he won a gold medal in men’s freestyle competition.

Wrestling at 65 kg, Chittum went 4-0 without surrendering a single point, outscoring his opponents 41-0. He opened his tournament with three 10-0 technical falls to earn his spot in the finals, defeating opponents from Dominican Republic, Canada and Cuba. For gold, Chittum faced Hector Gonzalez of Mexico, who he dominated with an 11-0 technical fall, producing USA’s first gold medal of the event.

Overall, Team USA’s 15-wrestler roster produced 12 medals, including four golds, two silvers and six bronzes.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
