2025 World Championships Day Four Match Notes

The 2025 Senior World Championships continue on Tuesday from Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. Today will feature men’s freestyle group three (65-97 kg) and women’s freestyle group one (55-59 kg repechage and medal matches, women’s freestyle group two (50-57-65-76 kg) preliminary rounds. Updates and results from each Team USA match can be found below.
10:30 a.m. – Qualification Rounds (WFS 50-57-65-76 kg), Repechage (MFS 65-97 kg, WFS 55-59 kg)
4:30 p.m. – Semifinals (WFS 50-57-65-76 kg)
6 p.m. – Medal Matches (MFS 65-97 kg, WFS 55-59 kg)

Azarpira goes on the shot clock at 1:28 into the period. The clock expires and point to Snyder. That’ll do it for the first, 1-0 Snyder. Snyder presses forward to start the period, Azarpira slips, Snyder tries to strike and gets caught for a takedown. Azarpira takes the 2-1 lead. Blood time for Azarpira at the 2:10 mark. Caution and one against Azarpira for defensive wrestling. Azarpira holds criteria with 42 seconds left. Snyder with a single leg going off the mat with 8 seconds left to take the 3-2 lead. Azarpira gets in on a shot and drives to the edge as time expires. No points are awarded on the edge, but Iran is challenging the call. The call stands and Snyder gets the win, 4-2
Biabani is put on the shot clock midway through the first period. We are scoreless. The shot clock expires, and Woods takes over the lead, 1-0. That’s all for the first period. Woods gets put on the clock at the 2:17 mark. The shot clock runs out and it’s 1-1, Biabani holds criteria. Biabani is put back on the clock at 1:24. It expires, and Woods regains the lead, 2-1. Biabani gets in deep on a single leg for nearly 20 seconds. Woods fights it off through the buzzer. Biabani is challenging for a singlet pull. The challenge fails and Woods will claim the bronze medal.
Khoroshavtseva put on the shot clock just over halfway through the period. The shot clock expires, point Maroulis, to take the early 1-0 lead. That does it in the first. Neither wrestler has committed to an offensive attack just yet. A low-level attempt from Khoroshavtseva is countered by Maroulis as she gets back to her near-side dump to the back for a fall just 11 seconds into the period.
Maroulis secures a two-on-one and drives to a step out in first 12 seconds. A shot from Tokuhara is countered by Maroulis with a foot sweep to the back, and she gets the pin in 2:18.
Single leg Welker, she runs backside and opens the scoring midway through the first, 2-0. That’s all we have in the first period. Welker drives a double leg off the mat for a step out. She’s up 3-0 with 2:12 remaining. Medet Kyzy drives an underhook to the edge, Welker attempts to throw the overhook, Medet Kyzy comes out on top as they go off the mat. After the officials confer, the exchange is scored two for Medet Kyzy. Whizzer, seatbelt position on the edge of the mat and Welker fends off the attack with 24 seconds left to stay up 3-2. Medet Kyzy with the takedown 13 seconds left and adds a turn to go up 6-3. Welker shoots at the end, go-behind Medet Kyzy for an 8-3 win.
Welker strikes with a takedown-to-turn combo in the first 20 seconds and goes up 4-0. A head inside single leg for Welker, Georgieva tries a crotch lift but doesn’t work. That’s it for the first period. Georgieva shoots in, pancake from Welker to the back for the pin at 4:02.
Jimenez pushes the action but steps out to trail 1-0 early. The 1-0 score holds to the break. Liuzzi is keeping Jimenez caught in upper body ties, preventing much action. Low level single leg for Jimenez into a leg lace. She can’t convert on the turn, but takes over the lead, 2-1. It’s 2-1 midway through the second period. Action goes out of bounds, Jimenez is called for fleeing, cation and a point, and gets put down in forced par terre on the restart. Liuzzi converts a gutwrench to go up 4-2. There are 37 seconds for Jimenez to work with, now netural. Jimenez shoots underneath and gets whipped through for an exposure. Jiminez comes out on top for a 2-1 exchange. Time runs out and Liuzzi wins, 6-3.
Woods with a go-behind out of the gate. It’s a bit of a funky situation with both guys exposing. Woods comes out on top and adds a turn. The score sits at 5-2 for Woods. Woods gets a set of exposure from a front headlock position to lead 7-2 at the break. A step out point for Sujeet makes it 7-3 Woods with exactly one minute left. Another step pout for Sujeet to make it 7-4 with 26 seconds remaining. The action goes out-of-bounds with Sujeet pressing, but it stays grounded and scored no points with 5 seconds left. Woods is hit for fleeing, caution and one, but it won’t matter. Woods takes it and move to the bronze medal match with a 7-5 decision.
Maroulis comes close to getting a cow catcher, runs Cakmak off the mat for a point. Maroulis with a feet-to-back dump for a fall in 1:01.
Single leg for Kasabieva is stuffed by Kilty. Underhook to a single leg for Kilty, she lifts the leg and is rolled through for four points on the counter. Kilty ends up finishing for a takedown to make it 4-2. Kasabieva drags out from underneath for a takedown to make it 6-2. That’s where we head to the break. Kilty gets back to that right side underhook and works around for a score. It’s 6-4 with just over two minutes remaining. Single leg off the whistle and Kilty works for a third takedown. Kasabieva now leads on criteria, 6-6. The action goes out of bounds, fresh start with 36 seconds left, Kilty needs a score. Kasabieva shoots a double, Kilty sprawls out of it, which kills a lot of time. Kilty is unable to get a score late and falls, 6-6.
A front headlock, go-behind takedown for Woods to open the scoring. He adds a pair of gutwrenches and a couple arm bar tilts to get the 10-0 technical fall in 1:03.
