Action wrapped up on Saturday for two athletes competing in men’s freestyle at the 2025 Sassari City Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Sassari, Italy. Nick Stemmet secured a bronze medal, marking his second international tournament podium finish.

At 92 kg, Stemmet went 2-2 at the tournament. Both of Stemmet’s victories were by technical fall, as he defeated Omer Ozyildirim of Turkey in round one, and Cedric Vella of Malta in round three.

Stemmet dropped rounds one and four to two opponents from Moldova, 2022 U23 World bronze medalist Ivan Ichizili and two-time age-group World bronze medalist Eugeniu Mihalcean.

Stemmet earned a bronze medal at the 2023 Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial in Warsaw, Poland. With his performance in Italy, he has medaled in both of his international tournament appearances.

Jaden Abas, competing at 70 kg, fell in two matches in a round-robin bracket on Saturday. Abas, a two-time NCAA All-American for Stanford, dropped a 19-10 decision to three-time age-group World bronze medalist Nicolai Grahmez of Moldova. Grahmez won silver at the Matteo Pellicone in 2024.

In his second match, Abas came up short in a hard-fought 8-5 bout against Pavel Grauer, a five-time age-group World Team member from Moldova.
