LIMA, Peru – Team USA picked up a gold medal in beach wrestling from Dominic Porter, and a silver medal from Sadie Evans, on Sunday to cap the U20 Pan American Championships held at Complejo Panamericano Costa Verde.
Porter, who was fourth at last year’s U20 Beach World Championships, went 3-1 on the day, avenging his only loss to Ibrack Angulo Castillo of Ecuador in the championship match, to secure the +90 kg men’s gold medal. He also earned two quick pins on his title run.
Evans went 2-2 to claim the 70 kg women’s silver medal. She earned a pin in 1:05 against Kaori Melgar Palomino of Peru to open the event and added a 3-2 decision win against Elide Castanon Buendia of Mexico in the semifinals. Evans’ two losses came to the same foe—eventual gold medalist Leonela Gruezo Ortiz of Ecuador. Both matches versus Gruezo Ortiz were 3-0 scores.
The U.S. earned fifth place in both the men’s and women’s divisions with just one entrant apiece.
