Morgan Turner named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare

Morgan Turner celebrates her 2025 U17 World title in Athens, Greece.
Morgan Turner (Chicago, Ill./All I See is Gold Academy) has been named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on August 13, 2025.
Turner became a two-time U17 World champion and a three-time U17 World medalists after capturing the gold medal in women's freestyle at 49 kg at the U17 World Championships in Athens, Greece on July 31.
Turner was dominant in her four-match march to the top of the podium. She opened with a 30-second fall over 2025 Asian U17 silver medalist Saniya Soltangali of Kazakhstan. In the quarterfinals, she scored a 10-0 technical fall over Komal Verma of India in just 36 seconds. In the semifinals, she locked up a cradle and scored a fall in 1:18 over Anhelina Burkina, representing UWW.
In the gold-medal match, Turner defeated two-time Asian U17 champion Yu Kataoka of Japan with a commanding 6-1 victory. Turner capitalized with three takedowns in the match.
Turner became the first World champion for Team USA during the 2025 season across all age groups and styles. She won U17 World gold medals in 2023 and 2025, and a U17 bronze medal in 2024.
Turner has a huge resume of success. This season, she won two college open tournaments, the Warrior Women's Open and the Mike Duroe Invitational. She was a 2025 Junior Folkstyle Nationals champion, a 2025 U17 Pan American freestyle champion and a 2023 U16 Nationals freestyle champion. Turner was a 2023 National Girls High School Recruiting Showcase champion. She also claimed gold medals at the 2022 U15 Pan American Championships and 2021 U17 Pan American Championships.
Competing for Lockport High School in Illinois, she was a 2024 Illinois girls state champion. In 2023, she was placed in the Illinois 2A State Championships against boys at 106 pounds.
