HERRIMAN, Utah – The third event in the USA Wrestling Regional Championships series concluded last weekend in Herriman, Utah. The Western Regional Championships were held May 9-11 at the Zions Bank Real Academy.

There were five double champions, winners in both freestyle and Greco-Roman in their respective weight classes, in the Junior Boys division: Roman Luttrell New Mexico at 120 pounds, Jason Worthley of Utah at 144 pounds, Tucker Roybal of Utah at 157 pounds, Hudson Rogers of Idaho at 190 pounds and Angelo Posada of California at 215 pounds.

Double champions in the Junior Girls division included Madison Heinzer of California at 110 pounds, Aleena Navarrete of Utah at 115 pounds, Shayna Ward (California)lifornia at 125 pounds, Janie Houser 0f California at 130 pounds, Makynna Loepp of California at 135 pounds, Isabella Morgan of Utah at 155 pounds, Billie Bonwell of Nevada at 170 pounds and Tilisa Matakaiongo of Utah at 235 pounds.

In the 16U Boys division, there were five double champions: Lucas Forman of Nevada at 88 pounds, Thiago Silva of California at 94 pounds, Lazarus McEwen of Washington at 100 pounds, Brycen Dawley of Washington at 106 pounds and Noah Bull of Utah at 144 pounds.

There were also three double champions in the 16U girls division in Lola Gonzales of Colorado at 100 pounds, Brynlee Sorensen of Utah at 118 pounds and Roxie Uhrig of Colorado at 142 pounds.

The top six boys and girls in each weight class of the Junior and 16U divisions have qualified for their respective state teams for the 2024 USMC Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D.

There were also tournaments held in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U age divisions with both boys and girls competing in freestyle and Greco-Roman. Athletes that competed in the Western Regional Championships and meet the age group requirements are eligible for the 2024 Kid’s Nationals, held at the ImOn Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa June 27-30, 2024.
