Athletes wrestling in the 12U division at Kids Folkstyle Nationals in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The first day of Kids Folkstyle Nationals unfolded with exciting matches, showcasing the skill of young wrestlers from across the country on Saturday at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
There is one Triple Crown winner from 2023 that was victorious on Saturday in Ian Weber of Ringers Wrestling Club. Weber won his bracket in the 12U division at 67 pounds, going 4-0 with two falls and a 6-2 decision in the finals. He previously won the Triple Crown in 2023 in the 10U division at 59 pounds.
Five boys that won the Triple Crown in 2022 finished atop the podium in Fort Wayne. Jacob Graber of Summit Wrestling Academy (12U, 58 pounds), Korbin Kiessling of Rampage Wrestling (12U, 63 pounds), Austin Armstrong of Team Idaho Wrestling Club (12U, 74 pounds), Kody Doran of Camdenton Wrestling Club (12U, 160 pounds) and Reece Movahead of American Dream Wrestling Club (14U, 106 pounds) earned first place finishes at the tournament.
Armstrong was named the Outstanding Wrestler in the 12U division, going 4-0 with all his wins by fall. Armstrong’s fastest fall came in the quarterfinals, where he pinned his opponent in 51 seconds.
In the 14U division, Jeremy Carver of Contenders Wrestling Academy was named the Outstanding Wrestler. Carver picked up four wins by fall, including a 50-second fall in the finals. Carver edged out his opponent in a 1-0 decision in the semifinals, going 5-0 on Saturday.
The lone girls Triple Crown winner from 2023 that has a chance to repeat is Abigail Peterson of Iowa, one of two girls Triple Crown winners of all-time. Peterson had a good day at Kids Folkstyle Nationals, finishing at the top of the podium in the 14U division at 81-87 pounds. All three of Peterson’s victories on the day were by fall.
The Outstanding Wrestler in the 12U girls division was Azyah Rice of Inland Elite Wrestling Club at 81 pounds. Rice had a 3-0 day with three falls, her fastest being a 38-second pin in the quarterfinals.
In the 14U division, Zaylyn Woods of Sisters on the Mat was named the Outstanding Wrestler at 115 pounds. Woods earned three victories by fall and one technical fall victory.
