CORALVILLE, Iowa – FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One, an annual tradition that dates back to 2013, treated wrestling fans to the top high school prospects in the sport on Saturday evening at Xtream Arena.
24 high school bouts were contested, 12 each in the girls and boys divisions, with elite talent littering the card. All girls matches were wrestled under freestyle rules, while the boys matches used NCAA folkstyle rules.
2025 U20 World champion Everest Leydecker of Arizona brought home the main event win on the girls card over 2025 U17 World silver medalist Epenesa Elison of California at 120 pounds. It was Leydecker’s fourth win at the event, setting a Who’s Number One record.
The first period ended 3-2 with the only scoring sequence being a two-two-one exchange from a front headlock roll initiated by Leydecker. Elison responded at the start of the second period with a single leg score and exposure points to go up 6-3. It was all Leydecker thereafter. The Arizona product scored three go-behind takedowns to finish the match, 9-6.
The boys main event between two-time age-group World medalist Bo Bassett of Pennsylvania and two-time U17 World medalist Jordyn Raney of Kentucky was less climactic. The battle of top-ranked wrestlers, Bassett at 150 pounds and Raney at 144 pounds, ended before it really began. In the first flurry of the contest Raney appeared to suffer an ankle injury and was forced to withdraw from the match.
Several wrestlers put forth dominant performances, notching bonus-point wins on Saturday.
Four girls secured 10-0 technical falls—Kayla Batres of Connecticut at 110 pounds, Kaili Manuel of Michigan at 170 pounds, Jaclyn Bouzakis of Pennsylvania at 105 pounds and Taina Fernandez of Maryland at 135 pounds. All four have strong USA Wrestling ties. Batres was a 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals champion. Manuel, Bouzakis and Fernandez have each represented the U.S. at an age-group World Championships. Fernandez is a two-time U17 World champion, while Bouzakis has won two U17 World bronze medals.
Earning pins in the boys division were Rocklin Zinkin of California at 120 pounds and Jayden Raney of Kentucky at 132 pounds. Three boys picked up major decisions—Melvin Miller of Pennsylvania at 165 pounds, Ariah Mills of Georgia at 106 pounds and Landon Sidun of Pennsylvania at 120 pounds. Mills and Raney are U17 World champions. Miller has competed on a U17 World Team. All five have won a stop sign in Fargo, N.D.
All told, seven No. 1’s were defeated, four on the girls card and three on the boys card. Complete results from the event can be found below.
