Dubuque RTC tops NMU-NTS, 26-9 in Dubuque RTC Greco-Roman Showcase; Ukraine women sweep four exhibition bouts

The Dubuque RTC World Class Showdown was hosted at the Stoltz Athletics Center on the campus of the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa, on Saturday, October 21, and was a successful event featuring Senior-level Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling.


The featured dual meet in Greco-Roman ended with the host Dubuque RTC defeating Northern Michigan National Training Site by a 26-9 margin.


The Dubuque RTC won eight of the 10 bouts contested in the dual meet. Among the winners were two-time Olympian Ben Provisor (87 kg), 2021 U.S. Nationals runner-up Dylan Koontz (60 kg) and 2023 U.S. Open All-American Darryl Aiello (130 kg).


Kootz scored a 12-4 technical fall over NMU’s Ryder Smith. Provisor shut down Casey Recrosio of NMU RTC, in an 8-0 technical fall. Aiello pinned Cameron Gronki of NMU/NTS


Scoring wins for the NMU-NTS team was Chayse LaJoie of the California RTC (72 kg) and Maddox Khalimsky of NMU-NTS (87 kg).


In addition, there were four women’s freestyle exhibition matches, featuring athletes from the Ukrainian National Team facing wrestlers from the Dubuque RTC. The Ukrainian women, who were in Iowa for training this past week, won all four matches, securing three wins by technical fall, from Abina Rillia (53 kg), Iryna Koliadenko (62 kg) and Tetiana Sova (65 kg).

The weekend was a celebration of international wrestling. There were wrestling clinics included in the price of admission, featuring top athletes, with involvement from Olympic and World champion Rulon Gardner, UFC champion and Greco-Roman World Team member Randy Couture, and World champion and Olympic medalist Dennis Hall.
