The Wisconsin Wrestling League has been formed to provide safe and reliable wrestling practice and competition opportunities to youth wrestlers across the state of Wisconsin.
Creation of the league is largely the work of Justin Tritz, Scott Kluever (State Coach Coordinator for the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation) and Dave Black (chairperson of the WWF).
Regular season league competition is slated to begin in early December 2020 and culminate on January 31, 2021, with postseason competition starting on February 7, 2021. All events will be sanctioned with USA Wrestling and will use Trackwrestling event management software.
Divisions for the league will be based on the current grade of the participants (K-2, 3-5 and 6-8), and all events will be conducted in accordance with COVID-19 related regulations. Competing teams will be limited to 40 wrestlers on their roster to ensure proper scheduling and pairing of the event.
Tritz, the founder and former CEO/president of Trackwrestling, has a long history of wrestling in Wisconsin. After an incredibly successful prep career at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, he has remained connected with the sport, not only with Trackwrestling, but also with the youth and high school programs in Rapids and more recently with Beast Cage Wrestling.
“It's a lot of fun seeing the enthusiasm from people when they first hear about the Wisconsin Wrestling League and what we will be offering for wrestlers this year,” said Justin Tritz. “Kids need structure and stability around the activities they set goals for themselves in, and we intend to provide both for the kids who want to wrestle.”
The Wisconsin Wrestling Federation, the state affiliate for USA Wrestling, has a rich tradition in both youth folkstyle and the Olympic styles of wrestling.
Said Scott Kluever, “The WWF is excited to partner with the Wisconsin Wrestling League to offer a quality wrestling opportunities. Justin Tritz changed the landscape of wrestling when he created Trackwrestling and we feel this league will change the landscape of wrestling in Wisconsin.”
“The Wisconsin Wrestling Federation has intentionally been essentially hands-off with clubs and event directors up until the 8 qualifiers and state tournament. We provide a fantastic product to nearly 4,000 participants each year in these tournaments, but we have always felt as though the club and events knew their needs best and scheduled accordingly,” said Dave Black. “We realize that the wrestling community in Wisconsin looks to the WWF as leaders and now more than ever, we will help provide the proper direction for our membership and this league is an example of just that.”
An informational meeting will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. For more information about the meeting and other league-related items, please contact either Justin Tritz at justin@thebeastcage.com or Scott Kluever at wwfstatecoach@yahoo.com.
