In its announcement concerning the winter season for Virginia's independent high schools, the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) indicated that there would be no wrestling post-season unless the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) lowers wrestling's risk-level from its current "high-risk" status.
Basically, the VISAA will hold winter post-season open invitationals for sports considered "moderate risk," to include basketball, indoor track and swimming/diving. Sport specific safety protocols for these sports are coming November 6.
According to media reports, the schools can conduct wrestling, but the VISAA would not provide a post season under the sport's current NFHS designation.
