Match of the Day: Alan Vera defeats Joe Rau at the 2019 Dave Schultz Memorial

87 kg will be one of the most exciting brackets contested at tomorrow’s Senior Nationals. The top two seeds are Alan Vera and Joe Rau, two of the best Greco wrestlers in the country.
Vera, formerly of Cuba, now competes for the United States. While he is still working to become eligible to compete in Olympic events, Vera is currently cleared to represent the U.S. at UWW World Championships.
Rau is the 2019 World Team member. He secured a bye to the Olympic Team Trials finals after winning the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier and earning an Olympic Games berth for the U.S. at 87 kg.
The pair wrestled at the 2019 Dave Schultz Memorial, with Vera coming away with a big win. Vera won the tournament, while Rau finished third.
Should the seeds hold tomorrow, Vera and Rau will clash again in the Senior Nationals finals.
