If you hadn’t followed things this last week, the Wisconsin Regional Training Center Underground 1 card, set for Tuesday, November 24, has continued to add matches and should be a great card for fans to enjoy. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. Central time only on Rokfin.
One of the newest matchups announced includes a pair of World medalists, in a bout that could be a preview of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in April. Two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe and 2018 World silver medalist Sarah Hildebrandt will square off in a battle of two of the world’s best 50 kg women’s freestyle stars.
Lampe, who grew up in Wisconsin, won her World bronze medals in 2012 and 2013. She made a comeback from retirement in 2019, and won the Senior Nationals at 50 kg in December 2019.
Hildebrandt, who won her World silver at 53 kg, made the move down to 50 kg in 2020, and qualified the USA to compete at the weight class with her performance at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier in Ottawa, Canada in March.
This card has competitive battles in all three of the Olympic disciplines, women’s freestyle, men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman. There are currently three women’s bouts included on the card.
In men’s freestyle, one of the headliners is Wisconsin RTC star and past NCAA champion Seth Gross battling NCAA finalist Bryce Meredith. These two met while in college in what the Wisconsin RTC calls “the original super match.”
In Greco-Roman, with two-time Olympian Ben Provisor (a native of Wisconsin) going against current Wisconsin student-athlete and 2018 Junior World Team member Tyler Dow.
The card has a strong Wisconsin connection. Many of the participants train at the Wisconsin RTC, are current members of the University of Wisconsin wrestling team, or grew up in Wisconsin.
One of the matches highlight a pair of champions from last weekend’s USA Wrestling national events in Omaha, Neb., as U23 National champion Ronna Heaton is battling UWW Junior National champion Cameron Guerin.
