All Michigan high school sports paused until Dec. 9, when winter season will be reviewed

The Michigan High School Athletic Association has issued a number of statements this week concerning high school athletics.


On November 15, the MHSAA announced "with Governor Whitmer’s announcement this evening, all school sports activities (practices and contests) are suspended effective immediately through at least Dec. 8 or until these new orders are amended."

On November 18, the MHSAA released "an adjusted schedule to restart and conclude Fall Tournaments in football, girls volleyball and girls swimming & diving, and also to resume Winter sports after the three-week 'pause' in activity ordered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) scheduled to end Dec. 9."


The statement also noted that "for Winter sports, the Council approved resuming practices on Dec. 9 if permitted by the MDHHS, with Winter competition to begin Jan. 4."

Currently the sites and dates for Michigan's 2021 Team Finals and 2021 Individual Finals for wrestling have not yet been determined. Also, MHSAA rules allow for no more than "four schools/teams at a site," and "requires face coverings for athletes in basketball, competitive cheer, ice hockey and wrestling at all times."
