Ottawa, Canada – After advancing three wrestlers to the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier finals, Team USA crowned three champions this afternoon. Thomas Gilman (57 kg), David Taylor (86 kg) and Nick Gwiazdowski (125 kg) all received victories via injury default in their finals matches.

Zain Retherford was the only American to actually wrestle in a medal match. Retherford took bronze, earning a fall over Albaro Rudesindo Camacho of the Dominican Republic. When Retherford picked up the pin, he was leading, 10-0, and had already secured at least a technical fall.

Overall, the U.S. went 14-1 in men’s freestyle and now has five out of six weight classes qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Women’s freestyle has qualified all six weight classes for the Olympic Games, and Greco-Roman has qualified four out of six weight classes. The U.S. will have the opportunity to qualify the remaining weight classes at the Last Chance Olympic Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria, at a yet to be determined date.
