Senior-level wrestling in the United States is back this weekend, with the Rumble on the Rooftop card set for Sunday, June 28 at 6:00 p.m. CT in Chicago, Ill.
The event, which features 11 different bouts, will be broadcast live on FITE, a global digital platform, for $19.99.
This event is a benefit competition, which will provide funds directly to the athletes on the card, to the Regional Training Centers and to Beat the Streets Chicago, which provides wrestling opportunity for youth. The money that comes in from fans purchasing the show will be split directly among these wrestling people.
“Every dime raised will go to the athletes until we reach a certain amount. This is a true fundraiser for the sport of wrestling. Regional Training Centers have all been impacted in some way by COVID-19 but we are hoping that this might help bridge the gap. This is not about supporting Fite.TV; it’s about supporting wrestling,” said Bryan Medlin, Illinois RTC coach and one of the organizers of the event.
Many of the matchups in the competition will feature athletes from the Illinois RTC battling athletes from the Minnesota Storm RTC. Both of these RTCs are helping prepare elite athletes to pursue their Olympic dreams.
Eight of the matches include men’s freestyle athletes on the Senior level, headlined by the battle between Jason Nolf and Jordan Oliver. One of the other big battles feature a pair of past Senior World Team members, Joe Rau vs. Pat Downey. It will be a very competitive card of high-level wrestlers.
Added to the card is a top match between high school girls from Illinois, Mia Palumbo of Richards High School against Shea Reisel of Somonauk High School. In the final National Girls High School rankings this past March, Palumbo is ranked No. 1 at 106 pounds, while Reisel is ranked No. 13 at 112 pounds.
There are also two Chicago Beat the Streets youth matches, giving fans a chance to see young local athletes who have been impacted in a positive way through the Beat the Streets program.
Fans can sign up through the RTC platforms or through the individual athlete platforms, and additional funds will go to them.
The event is being conducted with extensive precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them are:
• No fans, in order to meet restrictions for gatherings
• Covid-19 Testing
• Social distancing during the event
• Temperature checks before, during, and after the event
• All state and local guidelines will be strictly adhered to
The event will be live streamed on FITE.TV on June 28th at 6:00 p.m. CT.
