CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Host Campbellsville, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, won seven of 10 bouts, including four by pin, to defeat No. 1 Life.


Pins for Campbellsville came from No. 1 Abby Nette (130), No. 2 McKayla Campbell (109), Gabby Garcia (143) and Alexia Foca (155).


Nette is the reigning U.S. Senior National champion and has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.


Campbellsville picked up forfeit points at 116, and also had wins by Mariah Harris (170) and Alex Castillo (191).

No. 1 Women's Wrestling drops road dual to No. 2 Campbellsville



CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. ---- The No. 1 nationally ranked Life University women's wrestling team took a hard road Mid-South Conference loss to No. 2 Campbellsville 33-13 Wednesday night.


Life U (13-3) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with one of its three individual match wins. No. 4 Faye Cherrier won 8-2 over No. 7 Bacich at 101 to begin the dual.


Campbellsville (9-1) earned bonus points with the next two matches on a pin and a forfeit to take an 11-3 lead.


Julia Vidallon turned things around in the second period to earn the 8-4 decision at 123 to give the Running Eagles three key points.


Campbellsville responded with the pin at 130 before Alex Enriquez answered the call with a pin of her own at 136 lbs. in 2:41. After the first six weight classes, Life U trailed 17-11.


Life U was unable to pick up a win the remainder of the dual as Campbellsville went on to win 33-13.


The women's wrestling team will return to action on February 7-8 when they play host to the WCWA Nationals at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta, Ga. More information will be released in the coming week.
