KRASNOYARSK, Russia – Two Americans competed at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, on Thursday.

Representing the women’s freestyle squad was Victoria Anthony, who competed at 50 kg. Just days after winning bronze at a UWW Ranking Series, Anthony jumped right back into competition.

Anthony, who has two fifth-place finishes at the World Championships, dropped her opening bout to five-time age-group World medalist Nadezhda Sokolova of Russia.

Sokolova went on to advance to the finals, pulling Anthony into repechage. Tomorrow, she will face 2017 Cadet European champion Natia Svandize of Russia.

In men’s freestyle, 2019 Junior World silver medalist Vito Arujau wrestled at 57 kg.

Arujau lost his first match to Alexander Sobanov from Russia in a wild 12-10 bout. Sobanov did not make it to the finals, ending Arujau’s tournament.

Wrestling continues tomorrow. The lone American scheduled to compete on Friday is 2019 Senior Nationals runner-up Joey McKenna, who will compete at 65 kg. To begin his tournament, McKenna will face 2019 Junior European silver medalist Muslim Saidulaev of Russia.
