Smith and Briggs win bronze at Granma Cup in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba – Robby Smith and Riley Briggs collected bronze medals on Wednesday at the Granma Cup in Havana, Cuba.
Wrestling at 130 kg, Smith, a 2016 Olympian and multiple-time World Team member, won his medal match with a 9-0 shutout technical fall over 2019 Pan American Championships runner-up Luciano Del Rio from Argentina.
At 72 kg, Northern Michigan student-athlete Briggs was awarded the bronze after picking up a win in round-robin action on Tuesday.
Alec Ortiz was pulled into Wednesday’s bronze-medal match at 77 kg but fell to Dairon Salomon of Cuba to finish fifth.
