Match of the Day: Daniel Cormier takes bronze at the 2007 World Championships
by USA Wrestling
Tonight, Daniel Cormier will most likely be fighting for the last time in his MMA career. Sporting a 22-2 record, Cormier will be looking to go out on top.
In this fight, Cormier will battle UFC heavyweight champion and former Cleveland State wrestler Stipe Miocic for the third time. Cormier defeated Miocic in a heavyweight title fight on July 7, 2018 with a first round knockout. Then, Miocic took the title from Cormier on August 7, 2019 with a fourth round TKO. The winner of tonight’s fight will go home with the heavyweight title.
Before transitioning to MMA, Cormier was a two-time Olympian, four-time Senior World Team member and 2007 World bronze medalist in men’s freestyle. At the 2007 World Championships, Cormier squared off with Kyrgyzstan’s Aleksey Krupnyakov for bronze. Krupnyakov was a 2005 World bronze medalist.
