USA edges Russia in women’s Cadet dual meet in St. Petersburg, Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – A team of U.S. Cadet women’s wrestlers edged a team of Russian athletes in a friendly international dual meet today.
The dual meet was tied at 6-6, but the USA was awarded the victory, based upon classification points, 28-26.
The U.S. team includes athletes from the Wyoming Seminary girls wrestling team, as well as a number of the top Cadet women athletes from across the nation.
Among the U.S. winners in the dual meet were two-time Cadet World medalist Sterling Dias of Nevada (42 kg), 2019 Cadet World bronze medalist Kylie Welker of Wisconsin (61 kg) and 2019 Cadet World bronze medalist Amit Elor of California (69 kg).
Among the other U.S. winners were from the Wyoming Seminary program: 2019 Cadet World team member Kennedy Blades of Illinois (69 kg), plus Abbygale Duke of New York (49 kg) and Sophia Smith of North Dakota (56 kg).
The dual meet was held in a high school in St. Petersburg, with a large crowd of fans supporting the wrestlers. The United States was presented a trophy for winning the dual meet by 2012 Olympic champion Natalia Vorobyeva of Russia.
The U.S. team is in St. Petersburg to compete in the Vorobyeva Cup, September 28-29.
