LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Saturday October 26) - The fans of wrestling that attended the IRTC Casino Night were treated to a celebration of food, wrestling, and fun. The night started off with an unbelievable meal of Chicago-style Italian sausage and pasta grilled on-site. After an all-you-can-eat-and-drink meal, the undercard matches started and didn’t disappoint.
Undercard results:
Cole Rhemrev over Julian Valtirrez
Kannon Webster over Caedan Riley
Evan Bates over Cody Goodman
Vinny Zerban over E’lan Heard
Jesse Mendez over Danny Pucino
Co-Main Event:
Emery Parker over Jack Dechow by Fall
First period back and forth attacks. Lots of action and offensive exchanges. Parker locks up double underhooks and hits a beautiful foot sweep to the fall. It’s easy to forget that these two past NCAA All-American’s are putting it all on the line while pursuing big dreams off the mat. Emery is currently finishing up his master’s degree in financial management and Jack is a young police officer in S.W.A.T. Training. Congratulations to Emery and thank you to Jack for your service.
Main Event
Isaiah Martinez over Kamal Bey 18-14
Going into the match, it was going to be interesting to see if each athlete would just hang back and stay in their comfort zone. The first 30 seconds of the match answered that with Martinez stepping up and going bodylocks with the Greco Junior World Champ. Both tested each other throughout the match. Whether it was Bey’s leg attacks or Martinez’s body attacks they both continued to step into each other’s wheel house and keep the action going for six-straight minutes. While Martinez came out on top on the scoreboard the real winners Saturday night were the fans. It was amazing to watch two men near the top of their field so selflessly compete for the good of wrestling and the promotion of the sport. Both are great champions.
Quotes from the athletes....
“If it was a gamble to go then the fans hit the jackpot! Great fans, great food, and great matches!”
-- Kamal Bey
“It was an entertaining event. The athletes that competed made it more memorable by their willingness to lay it out there.”
-- Isaiah Martinez
The Illinois Regional Training Center would like to thank the entire Poeta Family for their tireless work setting up for the event, Honorary Coach Mark Johnson, the national caliber referees, the athletes that made this possible and all that were able to come out
