McBryde to continue U23 World action in repechage

BUDAPEST, Hungary – In his international debut, Muhamed McBryde is only two wins away from earning a World medal as he was pulled back into repechage at the U23 World Championships on Monday evening in Budapest, Hungary.
Earlier in the day, McBryde, wrestling at 79 kg, registered a solid 5-0 win in the round of 16 before falling short to 2016 Junior World bronze medalist Tariel Gaphrindashvili from Georgia in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Gaphrindashvili dominated his way to a victory to pull McBryde into repechage.
McBryde will take on Mostafa Sayed of Egypt in the first round of repechage tomorrow. Should the American win, he will advance to the bronze-medal match against 2019 U23 European runner-up Ramazan Sari of Turkey.
Two other Americans were eliminated from the U23 World Championships on Monday night, including Jaydin Eierman at 65 kg and Chase Singletary at 97 kg.
Eierman wrapped up his first World Championships with a 1-1 record. Eierman, who scored a first-round pin by spladle earlier in the day, fell in the round of 16 to Ernazar Akmataliev of Kyrgyzstan in a wild 13-13 match.
Akmataliev was unable to advance to the finals, losing to Takuma Taniyama of Japan, 4-3, in the semifinals to put an end to Eierman’s tournament.
Singletary finishes his competition 0-1 on the day. He dropped a 16-6 match to 2018 U23 World silver medalist Dzianis Khramiankou of Belarus in the first round. Eventually, Khramiankou lost in the semifinals to 2018 U23 World champion Mojtaba Goleij of Iran to knock Singletary out of the tournament.
