Girls high school semifinals and boys high school quarterfinals set at Preseason Nationals

Des Moines, Iowa – Preseason Nationals kicked off this afternoon with high school wrestling action. The girl’s high school division wrestled into the semifinals, while the boys’ divisions wrestled into the quarterfinals. The girls are competing in only one division, and the boys are split into two, with juniors and seniors wrestling in one and freshmen and sophomores wrestling in the other.
The only weight class that finished was the 285 pound weight class of the freshman and sophomore boys division, which was a round robin. Matthew Moore of Colorado Springs took home the title with two pins and a 6-2 decision over Jacob Johnson of Franklin Wrestling Club, who finished runner-up.
On the girl’s side there were several ranked matchups early on. In the 113 pound weight class, No. 7 at 106 pounds, Samara Chavez defeated Shea Reisel, who is No. 11 at 100 pounds, 7-0. Chavez is trying to repeat as a high school division champion. In the semifinals she will face Caitlyn Kelley, who won the 7th and 8th grade division last year.
In the opening round of the 125 pound weight class, No. 16 at 127 pounds Devin Patton defeated Sydney Harper, who is currently ranked No. 7, 2-0. Also of note, No. 8 at 132 pounds, Maddie Kubicki defeated No. 17 Alisha Van Scoy in the 141 pound quarterfinals, 6-0.
Wrestling will resume tomorrow morning at 9 am Central time and be streamed live on Trackwrestling.
