Alex Glaude qualifies for bronze-medal bout at Olympic Test Event in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan - 2018 U23 World bronze medalist Alex Glaude (West Sacramento, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) has qualified for a bronze-medal match at 68 kg/149.5 lbs. at the Ready Steady Tokyo Olympic Wrestling Test Event on Thursday.
Glaude will battle 2018 Junior World bronze medalist Alina Rudnytska Levytska of Ukraine in a bronze-medal match on Friday.
She opened with a forfeit win over two-time World medalist Feng Zhou of China in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she was pinned by 2019 World bronze medalist Xiaoqian Wang of China.
Two other U.S. wrestlers competed on Thursday, dropping their quarterfinal match and were not eligible for repechage after their opponents were beaten in the semifinals.
2018 World bronze medalist Mallory Velte (Vancouver, BC, Canada/Titan Mercury WC) lost to 2016 World champion and three-time World medalist Xingru Pei of China, 4-1 in the quarterfinals at 62 kg/136.75 lbs. Pei was defeated in the semifinals by 2017 U23 World champion Yui Sakano of Japan.
At 76 kg/167.5 lbs., Hannah Gladden (Franklin Springs, Ga./Lion WC) was defeated in the quarterfinals by 2019 Asian Junior bronze medalist Mizuki Nagashima of Japan, 4-1. Nagashima was beaten by 2019 World bronze medalist Paliha of China.
Two other U.S. athletes begin their competition on Friday, two-time Senior World Team member and two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids WC) at 50 kg/110 lbs. and 2008 University World champion Katherine Shai (Denver, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/Northern Colorado WC) at 53 kg/116.5 lbs.
Anthony opens against 2017 Cadet World champion Remina Yoshimoto of Japan. Shai will face two-time Junior World medalist Liliya Horishna of Ukraine in her first match.
