Looking at early registrants for the Bill Farrell International

2018 World silver medalist Adam Coon is only registered for Greco-Roman

The Bill Farrell International is only a week away, and registrations keep flowing in. While wrestlers can continue to register up until November, 12, here are a couple takeaways from early registration.
Joe Warren is making a comeback.
Joe Warren, a 2006 Greco-Roman World champion at 60 kg, is currently registered for 67 kg. Warren transitioned from wrestling into mixed martial arts and has had a successful career fighting in Bellator, one of the world’s top promotions.
Warren has recently been training at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The veteran competitor is now 43 years old, and it will be interesting to see how he stacks up against the younger competition.
Five Senior World medalists registered
Besides Warren, Kyle Snyder, Adam Coon, Mallory Velte and Alyssa Lampe registered to compete. Snyder, who has been one the brightest stars for Team USA in recent years, is a 2016 Olympic champion a two time World champion (2015, 2017), a 2018 World silver medalist and a 2019 World bronze medalist.
Coon took silver in Greco-Roman at 130 kg at the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, while Velte took bronze at the same tournament in women’s freestyle at 62 kg. Lampe is a two-time World medalist, taking bronze at the 2012 and 2013 World Championships at 51 kg and 48 kg
It is also worth mentioning, that Coon is only registered for Greco-Roman. In the past, he has competed in both styles and was previously the No. 2 wrestler at 125 kg in men’s freestyle in the U.S.


Eight age-group World Champions registered
Both Snyder and Coon claimed age-group titles, with Snyder taking gold at the 2013 Junior World Championships and Coon winning the 2011 Cadet World champions (in men’s freestyle).
Additionally, there are six more age-group World champions registered including 2018 Junior World champion Mekhi Lewis, 2018 Cadet World champion Emily Shilson, 2015 Cadet World champion Ronna Heaton, 2011 Cadet World chapion Haley Augello, 2009 and 2010 Junior World champion Victoria Anthony and 2009 Junior World champion Dom Bradley.
Three NCAA champions entered that still have college eligibility 
Mekhi Lewis (74 kg), Nick Surinao (57 kg) and Seth Gross (57 kg) are still competing at the college level. Lewis and Suriano won NCAA titles in 2019, while Gross won his in 2018. Lewis and Suriano are both taking Olympic redshirts while Gross is balancing the college season with freestyle.
It’s also notable that Gross is competing at 57 kg (125.6 pounds) while his college weight class is 133 pounds, and he even competed at 141 pounds during his freshman and redshirt freshman seasons. Suriano also wrestles collegiality at 133 pounds, but his entry is more expected given that he wrestled at 125 pounds his first two seasons.
Other NCAA All-Americans still competing in college that are registered include Logan Massa, Matt Kolodzik and Jaydin Eierman. All three are taking Olympic redshirts.


Four WCWA champions entered that still have college eligibility
Gracie Figueroa (53 kg), Jayden Laurent (68 kg), Alexandria Glaude (68 kg) and Dymond Guilford (76 kg) all took home titles last year and are still eligible to compete in college. Laurent and Figueroa won as freshmen, while Glaude was a redshirt junior and Guilford was a sophomore.
2019 graduates
While some of the wrestlers listed here have competed extensively in freestyle during college and even won some age-group world medals, all of them were wrestling folkstyle at the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Now fully focused on freestyle, it will be interesting to see how these guys fare.
