USA dominates to win U15 Pan American Greco-Roman title, led by nine individual champions

PANAMA CITY, Panama – Nine U.S. wrestlers entered the 2019 Pan American U15 Championships in Greco-Roman. Nine U.S. wrestlers won the gold medal. Can’t do any better than that!!!
Team USA won the team title with 225 points, with Panama in second with 125 points and Colombia in third with 115 points. There were 10 teams represented in the tournament.
Winning the Golden Boot as the Outstanding Wrestler in the tournament was Paul Kelly of Chandler, Ariz. at 44 kg. Kelly won all four of his matches, including three by technical fall and one by pin.
The other U.S. individual champions were:
• Elias Navida, San Diego, Calif. at 38 kg
• Greyson Clark, Wrightstown, Wis. at 48 kg
• Lane Gilbert, Sullivan, Ind. at 52 kg
• Jayden Colon, Hanover Park, Ill. at 57 kg
• Braden Stauffenberg, Plano, Ill. at 62 kg
• Thor Michaelson, Bremerton, Wash. at 68 kg
• Antony Tuttle, North St. Paul, Minn. at 75 kg
• Nathan Wemstrom, Buffalo Grove, Ill. at 85 kg
In total, the USA won 35 matches, including 31 by bonus points (either pin or technical fall).
“Our kids really battled today. Our focus during training was to control the underhooks and to get to their two-on-ones. They did exactly that and won the hand fight in every one of their matches. This group handled the schedule changes like pros. We couldn’t be more proud of the way they represented the USA,” said U.S. coach Bryan Kenney.
These nine athletes will also compete in men’s freestyle on Sunday. The women’s freestyle will be hosted on Saturday.
