Top high school wrestlers showing their dominance in Folkstyle Nationals semifinals

Cedar Falls - In a battle of ranked wrestlers, Blake West of Iowa beat Eli Griffin 8-3 in the Junior 106 semifinals. West is ranked No. 19 and Griffin No. 6 by TrackWrestling. 

Drake Ayala of Iowa is making a case for outstanding wrestler of the tournament. He picked up his third tech. fall in as many matches when he defeated Nicholas Bermudez of California 20-5 in the Junior 113 lbs. semifinal. 

Ranked No. 10 at 113 lbs. but wrestling at 120 lbs. this tournament, Miximo Renteria of California was finally pushed in his semifinal bout. After pinning his first three opponents in the first period, Renteria won 3-1 with a first period takedown and third period escape in the semifinals. 

Both Dawson Sihavong’s of California and Luke Surber’s of Oklahoma pinning streaks also came to an end. Surber won by 11-1 major decision over Cougar Anderson in an all Oklahoma semifinal. Sihavong used a reversal in the first set tiebreakers to defeat Ezekial Williamson of Idaho. Both wrestlers had pinned their way to the semifinals. 

No. 13 at 145 lbs., Cael Valencia of California defeated Nathan Fuller of Fuller of Wisconsin 4-3 in the Junior 160 semifinals, setting up an exciting finals bout between Cadet World bronze medalist and No. 1 at 160 lbs., Alex Facundo of Michigan. 

Nathan Hutmacher of South Dakota, ranked No. 3 at 285 lbs., picked up his third bonus point victory of the tournament when won by 13-0 major decision over Yehezquel Devault of Indiana in the semifinals.

Junior and 16U finals will begin at 11 a.m. CST and can be streamed live on TrackWrestling.com.
